Jan Ghysels

 

Olav Haazen is an attorney-at-law practising in the New York state and federal courts. His main practice areas are commercial contracts, business torts, securities and financial law, antitrust, sports and entertainment, and international class actions. He also has extensive experience in various appellate courts and with U.S. Supreme Court amicus briefs. He has been a member of the New York Bar since 1998. Haazen is also a professor at Leiden University, where he teaches comparative civil procedure and cross-border litigation.  He authored two books and over 40 articles and case notes on torts, insurance, constitutional law and European private law unification.  He has lectured on global class actions and U.S. law at Stanford, Oxford, and Leiden, and taught constitutional law and political philosophy as a Teaching Fellow at Harvard.  He studied at Tilburg University (Ph.D. in law, 2001, with highest honors), Harvard Law School (LL.M., 1997), University of Oxford (M.Jur., 1994), Leiden University (lic. iur., 1993) and Institut d’études politiques de Paris (1992).

Jean Herveg is a member of the Bar of Brussels since 1993 where he is mostly active in real estate law as well as in the financial aspects of private life (bank and financial transactions) and family life (inheritances and matrimonial property). He is an expert in IT law (privacy and eCommerce) and Health law (eHealth products and services). Since 2000, he has been with the "Information, Law & Society Research Centre" (University of Namur, Faculty of Law, CRIDS, Belgium). Bernard Mailleux (lic. iuris KUL 1978 – cum laude) is a member of the Bar of Tongres since 1980 and a partner with ConSenso-attorneys-at-law.  He has been President of the Tongres Bar Association (2002-2004), he is an author with Kluwer (judicial reorganisation and bankruptcy law), he is an invited professor (PHL, commercial law and insolvency law).  He is also a substitute judge with the Commercial Court of Tongres and President of a Disciplinary Chamber of the bar associations Antwerp-Limbourg.

Lieven Peeters is a partner at ALTIUS.  He is co-head of the Regulatory & Real Estate team.  He is a renowned expert in the area of construction and real estate transactions with a solid knowledge of contracts law and general commercial law.  He is as such recognized amongst others by Chambers Europe, Legal500, PLC Which Lawyer and World Leading Experts.  He also received the “Client Choice Award 2011- category Commercial Property” of the International Law Organisation.  He advises clients in his real estate practice on all aspects of often complex real estate transactions, including the structuring of real estate projects, real estate M&A, sale-and-leaseback transactions, joint ventures, leasing, PPP and split structures.  Lieven Peeters has advised on various major transactions on the Belgian market involving several large shopping centres, office buildings, commercial properties, logistics properties, inner city developments and on other real estate niche products as senior housing and mixed use projects.  Lieven Peeters graduated at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Lic. Alex Tallon (cand. iur. FUNDP, lic. iur. KUL 1981) is a member of the Brussels Bar and a partner with Praetica.  He has been President of the Brussels Bar Association (2008-2010).  He is a member of the board of editors of Ingénieur Conseil.

 

Robbie Tas is a partner of the law firm Curia in Leuven.  He combined economic studies at K.U. Leuven (MEcon (finance) 1993), with a legal curriculum (lic. iur. 1994, graduate tax studies 1994, PhD 2002).  From 1994 to 2002, he served as Research Fellow with Prof. K. Geens at K.U. Leuven's Jan Ronse Institute, where he obtained his PhD with a study into the maintenance of capital in companies limited by shares and private Ltds.  Between 1997 and 2003 he was in charge of the legal secretariat of the International Commission of Appeal at Nasdaq Europe. He was a member of electricity company Luminus' board between 2002 and 2005.  He has been teaching in the master of corporate law program at K.U. Brussels since 2004.  He is a regular contributor to TRV, Review for Undertakings and Corporations.  He has published extensively on corporate law and the law of associations, and speaks regularly on the subject.  He is also the permanent secretary to VRG-Alumni, the alumni association of Leuven's law faculty.  He was called to the Brussels Bar in 1995, with De Bandt van Hecke & Lagae (now Linklaters) and started his own firm in Leuven in 2000.  He became a partner with the Leuven law firm Maxius in 2002, where he led the corporate law department.  He was one of Curia's founding partners (est. 1 October 2006).

Paul Van den Bulck is a member of the Brussels and Paris Bars, and practices in Belgium and France.  He is a partner with McGuireWoods LLP.  He focuses on legal issues concerning copyrights, trademarks, domain names, patents, design protection, biotechnology, media and entertainment (including gaming and gambling), software and technology law, personal data and fair trade practices.  He regularly acts as a mediator and arbitrator in matters of intellectual property, information technology and commercial law.  He represents clients across a broad range of industries (consumer and industrial products, entertainment, technology and software, fashion and luxury goods, and others).  He lectures at the Université Panthéon-Assas Paris II (IP arbitration and mediation) and the Université de Strasbourg (software patents).

Patrice Vanderbeeken is a member of the Brussels Bar since 1999. Patrice Vanderbeeken graduated cum laude from the University of Leuven (KUL) in 1998. He also graduated cum laude at the Universities of Passau (Germany) and Namur (Belgium). In 1998, he was an assistant to Advocate-General S. Alber at the European Court of Justice.  In 1999, Patrice obtained an MBA from the Vlerick Management School.  From 1999 to 2013 Patrice was associate and senior associate in the IP and IT department of the International Benelux law firm NautaDutilh. Since January 2013, Patrice is founding partner of the Brussels office of the International Technology boutique firm Pierstone.
